Days 1 & 2: Cardrona Alpine Resort

By car from Wānaka: 35 mins | 34km

The wide, gentle slopes of Cardrona are an ideal place to find your ski legs at the beginning of your trip. Check out both adult and kid lessons to refresh your skills (and to skip the lift lines!). Keep an eye out for the world-class terrain park and half pipes – you might even see a few pros training.

And don’t forget about après-ski at the iconic Cardrona Hotel or call into the Cardrona Distillery for taste of their award winning gin. That’ll warm you right up.

Day 3: Treble Cone Ski Area

By car from Wānaka: 35 mins | 34km

Treble Cone Ski Area is famous for its legendary off-piste and backcountry terrain, as well as unrivalled views over Lake Wānaka and the Southern Alps. Some local tips: If the snow allows for it, a hike to the summit for fresh tracks is well worth the chairlift-less effort. Lunch at the cafe is also great for views and for meeting a sneaky kea!

Lessons at Treble Cone are recommended for beginners and novices, instructors make great guides to secret spots at New Zealand’s largest ski area. And if you’re a first-timer, Treble Cone provides free lift access to the ‘Nice n’ Easy’ surface lifts.

For après-ski, head back in to town and set up shop at an outdoor table at one of the many lakefront venues.

Day 4: Snow Farm

By car from Wānaka: 35 mins | 34km

With over 50km of cross-country trails to explore, Snow Farm is great low-impact activity to keep the legs active. They also offer tubing, tobogganing, fat tyre biking, snowshoeing and backcountry hut experiences.

Day 5: Heliskiing

Heliskiing is not just for the pros! Any confident, intermediate skier can heli ski. Spend the day lapping untracked powder with a helicopter picking you up at the end of each run!
