Are you ready to dive into an evening of powerful stories and inspiration?

Join us on September 17th at Cinema Paradiso for Wao Aotearoa’s first film night: An Evening on Migration.

Our Wao Film Nights are curated to inspire and educate communities on living harmoniously within a thriving ecosystem. For this inaugural event, we’re thrilled to present a lineup that will move you to think, feel, and take action.

We’ll kick off with two incredible speakers—Hemi Cordell and Silvia Dancose, coordinators for QLDC Welcoming Communities. With deep multicultural roots and extensive experience, both Hemi and Silvia will share their personal journeys and professional insights on migration. From navigating the complexities of resettling refugees in Aotearoa New Zealand to celebrating the rich history of migration in their own families, their stories promise to be both enlightening and deeply personal.

Following the talks, we’ll screen the award-winning film Io Capitano—a cinematic masterpiece that received a 13-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival. Directed by Matteo Garrone (Gomorrah) and nominated for Best International Feature at the 2024 Academy Awards, this film is as unflinching as it is filled with empathy. Experience the raw emotions and resilience of those who embark on perilous journeys in search of a better life.

This is an evening not to be missed—be part of a conversation that matters and a community that cares.

Cinema Paradiso, 17 September, 7 PM Adults $25 / Students $20 More information on the wao website: https://www.wao.co.nz/waofilmnight-1
