A working production facility brewing with space for its tasting room, this sunny spot in the backblocks of Wānaka has some serious hoppy goodness going on within its walls. A mainstay for the local community, the folks at Rhyme X Reason have honed their skills since opening in 2017. Expertly brewing the beers that delight regulars but newbies alike. Come between 4 pm – 6 pm for $1 off pints (selected wines and ciders too), or fill up the supplied riggers or your own vessel for takeaway beverages.
The macrocarpa interior, cosy armchairs, and custom graffiti artwork (imagine a psychedelic, fear, and loathing-esque mural) bring ambiance and colour to this fully operational brew house. Don’t be surprised if you hear the clinking of bottles and hoppy smells that you’d expect to see at a brewery, you are in one after all.
With fourteen taps flowing at all times, this is obviously the place to come if it’s Rhyme X Reason beer you’re after!
The outdoor beer garden soaks in the mid-afternoon sun, so if you’re after the prime time to visit, this would be it. Food trucks and other local mobile food joints often sit out front most weekends, and keen to make this place feel like an ‘extension of your living room’, the team doesn’t mind an inch if you bring in your own dinner, snacks or picnic (true story; they once had a family bring in their Sunday roast for dinner). The philosophy here is very much BYOF (bring your own food) but if you’re caught short they may have some snacks you can snaffle on.
Rhyme x Reason regularly hosts events too, and doesn’t discriminate when it comes to what activities are welcome here. Ultimately, they just want everyone to thoroughly enjoy their pint.
