Welcome to Love Wānaka, a giving platform, launched in April 2023, that will raise funds to support localised climate, conservation, and biodiversity initiatives in the Wānaka region.

Love Wānaka’s mission is to connect our visitors and visitor industry to projects of impact in our region, raising funds to support those who are tackling the climate crisis right here in Wānaka.

So why here and why now?

We’re all thinking more consciously about how and where we travel. How we might make our trips more sustainable and regenerative? How can we prevent further damage to the environment? How can we look after the places we love so much? It’s never been more important than now.

Wānaka is a place rich in natural beauty, culture, and diversity. As part of Te Wāhipounamu – South West NZ World Heritage Area, Wānaka is surrounded by the largest and least modified area of New Zealand’s natural ecosystems. The flora and fauna here have become one of the world’s best intact representations of the ancient biota of Gondwana and that’s something none of us want to lose.

The wairua (spirit) created by this landscape is what shapes the experience of being in Wānaka and connects everyone who visits whether for a few hours, or a lifetime. We love this place but it’s under pressure.

We need to act now to protect it, and ensure the Wānaka we know and love is here for our tamariki (children)… and theirs, and the ones after that. This is why Love Wānaka was created.

How To Help

You don’t  have to be a local to get involved. Through donations, investment, and volunteer time, Love Wānaka gives all those who visit the chance to actively protect and regenerate the Wānaka rohe (region).

Your donation gives life to the organisations and initiatives that are protecting and preserving our ecosystems, now and for generations to come.

Pitch in an hour or two during your stay, or check out and support a local community event.

Love Wānaka is looking for individuals and organisations who want to go beyond a one-off donation and significantly invest in the future of our rohe (region).

We hope you find inspiration and a reason to get involved with regenerating and caring for the future of Wānaka.
